# Notification defaults

> Org-wide notification and broadcast delivery defaults.

Super Admins configure notification defaults at **Admin → Notifications** (`/admin/notifications`).

## What you configure here

* **Broadcast defaults** - email vs push vs in-app emphasis for new broadcasts
* **Domain reminders** - onboarding nudges, interview feedback reminders, rota reminders, and similar cron-driven alerts
* **Recruitment notifications** - shortlisting and application alerts for hiring roles

Individual staff can still override personal preferences in [account notification settings](/docs/account/notifications) unless your policy locks certain channels.

## Quiet hours

Staff enable personal quiet hours from the top bar. Org defaults do not replace personal DND but help you decide which system emails are always sent (for example security or account activation).

## Relationship to badges

Shell badge counts and bell menu entries aggregate unread items from many domains. Changing a default may reduce email volume but in-app badges may still appear until users mark items read.

## Testing changes

After changing defaults:

1. Send a test broadcast to a small channel.
2. Confirm push, email, and in-app behavior with a volunteer staff account.
3. Document major changes for managers so they know what staff should expect.

## Tips

* Prefer in-app plus push for time-sensitive rota changes; reserve email for summaries.
* Review defaults each term alongside [rota management](/docs/admin/rota-management) publish practices.
