# Eligibility side-effects

> Choose whether expired visa, right-to-work, end-of-studies proof, or post-graduation eligibility blocks rota assignment and clock-in, with HR overrides.

## Overview

Eligibility side-effects let people teams decide what happens when hard eligibility flags apply: expired visa, expired or overdue right-to-work, expired end-of-studies proof, or post-graduation eligibility that has ended. Soft expiry reminders stay on metric alerts and document queues. Open **Eligibility side-effects** (`/hr/eligibility`).

## Org mode

HR can set one of three modes:

* **Off** – no hard side-effects on rota or clock-in
* **Hard warn** – assignment and clock-in still proceed; the system returns a warning the product can show before save
* **Hard block** – rota assignment and clock-in are stopped until the HR record is updated or an override is added

The default is **Hard warn**.

## Graduation eligibility

Organisations that employ people under a post-graduation policy can turn on **graduation tracking** in the same Settings drawer.

1. Enable **graduation date on employee HR files**.
2. Set how many **eligibility years after graduation** apply for your organisation (for example 3).
3. Set **warn days before cutoff** so line managers and HR get soft alerts in good time.

When tracking is on, HR sets each person’s **Graduation date** on the employee record **Job** tab. Campsite shows the computed eligibility end date. Soft alerts go to the line manager and HR viewers. Once the cutoff has passed, the graduation flag follows your org mode (hard warn or hard block), unless an override is active.

Graduation tracking is off by default. End-of-studies proof documents remain separate: those track proof expiry, not the policy window after graduation.

## Overrides

Use an override when someone must work despite a flag. Choose the person, add a clear reason, and optionally set an expiry date. Creating a new override replaces any existing open override for that person. Revoke when the temporary exception should end.

Overrides are audited (who created them, when, and when they were revoked).
