How channels are organised
Your Super Admin creates broadcast channels when setting up each department. Every department — whether a functional team, a society, or a club — can have one or more named channels. Channels belong to exactly one department, so the channels available to you depend entirely on which departments you’re assigned to.Channel names and structures vary between organisations. Campsite does not ship with any default channel names — your Super Admin decides what’s appropriate for your team.
Mandatory and optional channels
Not every channel is optional. Channels marked as mandatory (sometimes called pinned channels) are ones your Super Admin has designated as essential for all members of a department. You are automatically subscribed to these and cannot unsubscribe. Optional channels are ones you can choose to follow or ignore. You start subscribed to the channels your Super Admin has set as default on-join, but you can change that at any time. You can only subscribe to channels that belong to departments you’re a member of. If you don’t see a channel you expect, check with your Super Admin that you’ve been assigned to the correct department.
Where to manage your subscriptions
You have two routes to your subscription settings: Option 1 — Settings:- Click your avatar or name in the bottom of the sidebar to open your account menu.
- Go to Settings → Notifications → Channel subscriptions.
- You’ll see a list of your departments, each expanded to show its channels. Toggle any optional channel on or off.
- Open the Broadcasts feed from the sidebar.
- Click the Channels filter dropdown at the top of the feed.
- Select Manage subscriptions at the bottom of the channel list.
Subscribing and unsubscribing
On the subscriptions screen, each channel shows its department, a short description (if your admin has added one), and a toggle:- On — you’re subscribed. Broadcasts sent to this channel appear in your feed and trigger notifications.
- Off — you’re unsubscribed. Broadcasts sent to this channel are hidden from your feed and you receive no notifications for them.
Troubleshooting: not receiving expected broadcasts?
If you’ve stopped receiving a type of broadcast or notice a gap in your feed, run through this checklist:- Check your channel subscriptions — the most common cause is an accidental unsubscribe. Open Settings → Notifications → Channel subscriptions and confirm the relevant channel is toggled on.
- Check your notification settings — email and push notifications can be configured separately from subscriptions. A subscribed channel will still show broadcasts in your feed even if push is off.
- Check your Do Not Disturb hours — push notifications sent during your quiet hours are held until the window ends. The broadcast will still be in your feed.
- Check your department membership — if you were recently moved between departments, your previous channel subscriptions may no longer apply. Contact your Super Admin or HR to confirm your department assignment.
